I receive one check that contains my child support and alimony. I haven't received the entire amount for either because my ex hadn't been paying it all. I know I have to find out my income from alimony to pay taxes. Will they send me a statement from the child support enforcement agency or what? I live in Ohio.
You can contact you local child support worker and let them know you need a statement that shows how much alimony aka spousal support you have rec'd. They will be able to print you out a payment history for 2005 and mail it to you. They are use to getting tax questions around this time of year so they will know what you are asking for. The number should be in the phone book under county section. Good luck! It should state in your divorce decree or court order how much is child support and alimony. You pay taxes on alimony but not child support. You will not get a statement. You much determine the amount of alimony own your own. Of course, you ex-spouse can deduct alimony paid on his/her return. Charles Lewis, Altus Accounting and Tax Services, 70 Water Street, Savannah, TN 38372 731-925-1070
