On my taxes do hospital expenses count towards "child or dependent care expenses"? |
I know you can take the deduction for day care but what about the cost of having the baby such as doctors, hospital stays, ect. Does that count for the same deduction? No, those would be under medical expenses. There is a standard deduction...if your itemized expenses are higher, use that dollar amount - otherwise, stick with the standard. No the time spent at Dr appt or Hosptial visits or stays in not considered Day Care Expenses. This is Medical Care. Day Care expenses are paid to a daycare provider to enable you to go to work. This will fall under medical expenses. Any out-of-pocket paid medical expenses go under medical deductions. Go to www.irs.gov, individual, publication 17 has what medical expenses may be taken. good luck imho - mucho tax experience No, those are medical expenses. They may be deductible if you itemize, but you can't use them for the Dependent Care Credit. No it doesn't. If you itemize, you could include any unreimbursed expenses as medical expenses on a schedule A. Medical expenses are only deductible for the amount that exceeds 7.5% of your income. |
