Child's last name changed and now taxes are being rejected?

Oh This past summer we had my sons last name changed and we took all the appropriate and legal mesures and now we have filed our taxes and they are being rejected due to the name and social security number not matching their records. He got a new social security card but same number so all records should be updated... so who do I contact? The e-file people said contact the SS administration so I did and got a bunch of automated crap and the website didnt help much either. I sent them an inquiry but no response yet.
Also to top it all off we need to do as much as possible online, we are military so though we live out of state we are still residents of Ohio so therefore file ohio taxes.

First check to make sure the social security numbers are being input correctly on all forms being filed, including the EIC form and that the date of birth is correct, All it takes is for one number to be off. Go to your local SS office with the legal documents showing the name change (court documents , birth certificate, etc) they can verify that the name and number match. If this doesn't correct it mail the return and elect for the direct deposit, Unfortunately this will take longer to process, but it will get the job done. For more information Call the Internal Revenue Service, they may be able to verify what name/ss# is showing on their records and advise you what else you can do

Refile your taxes with the old name. It should go through. The IRS hasn't updated their information from the SSA.
I did my mothers income tax last year. She claimed my younger sister, whose name changed. It kept getting rejected. I just used the name that they would accept (her old name) and they accepted it. You are claiming the same person, with the same SSN, just probably a different last name. It is not like you are trying to defraud the US Govt. This year I did it with my sister's new name. It was accepted. I think it just takes a long time.

Good luck.
call SSA and speak to a live representative. you should speak to someone in order to clear it up.
Call the IRS. It probably isn't the Ohio State taxes that are rejecting you but the Federal taxes. You will need to prove to them that his name was changed. Even if you get SS to say that all is correct the IRS will still need to be convinced. Maybe you could just try putting it thru with his old name and play the game their way?
You should refile. Sometimes, it takes a while for the IRS records to get updated by SS.
