Should pets be aloud to be termed dependants on ones taxes? Is a pet like a child? |
Should pets be aloud to be termed dependants on ones taxes? Is a pet like a child? That is crazy. Should someone who has 10 cats pay no tax? What if I have 1000 crickets as pets? Do I get 1000 dependents? How about an ant farm? What if I have cattle on a farm? Are we going to get social security numbers for pets to prove we have them? yes & yes absolutely!! I spend as much to feed them groom them and get their vet care. Well they do depend on us for survival and they do become a part of the family.. So why not , Yes Well, we love them like a child and I don't consider them property personally, but, the legislative and judicial system do categorize them as property, and as such, property cannot be considered a dependent. In the legal definition of the word, that would be like trying to claim your couch or refrigerator as a dependent. I'm not saying this is right, just saying this is how the law sees it. Besides, it would cause havoc to change the law because then, people would start adopting pets by the hundreds for the dependent deduction and then we would have an out of control animal abuse problem. a child is dependent on you a animal is property |
