In the State of Ohio do you have to claim child support received as income on your taxes? |
In the State of Ohio does a person have to claim their child support received as income on their tax return? What about the State of Michigan? not taxable and not deductable, the children are deductable (as dependants). these should help: http://www.taxsites.com/index.htm... http://www.divorceinfo.com/taxes.htm... http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc422.html... http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq4-5.html... http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.h... http://www.irs.gov/advocate/index.html... Nope, child support is not taxable and not required to be reported as income. Alimony is taxable and required to reported as income to the recipient. no concern ,don't think it will effect you much !since you will gain in the claiming of the child! Fool in the Rain is exactly right. For Federal income tax, child support can't be deducted by the payer and is not claimed by the recipient. My Ohio state income tax form does not have an adjustment for child support. I haven't checked Michigan, but I expect the same applies. |
