If my only income from 2005 is Child Support, do I have to file taxes? |
If my only income from 2005 is Child Support, do I have to file taxes? The simple answer to that is Yes, you have to file tax's no matter what, even if you have a 0 income from anything... but still, there should be a section in the tax forms for income from child support... most likely, but you should consult a tax accountant or attorney yes unless its under $500 NO i do taxes. child support is not taxable to the person who recieves it or deductible to the one who pays it only alomony is taxable income.and unless you made enough money working to go over your exemption amount and your filing status which is around $8,000 for 2005 for a single taxpayer and no dependents YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FILE. the reason is because you have no tax liability because your taxable income is reduced to 0 by the deductions. now if you had eny taxes withheld you can file to get them back but you do not have to.
