Do you get more on your tax return if you are divorced w/ children or married? |
Do you get more on your tax return if you are divorced w/ children or married? When I divorced my husband I recieved much more with my child then when I was married. Head of household made a big difference. Good Luck! By no means am I a tax export nor an accountant but I have done tax returns for friends and co-workers for the past few years. It could go either way depending the total taxable income and who's filing what. In the majority of cases, married, filing jointly gives the biggest tax break. If you are divorced with children living with you, you biggest tax break will come with filing head of household. Again, a more direct answer to your question is impossible without knowing total income, taxes owed, investments, etc. Cheers, Edward Gause Honesty in Internet Marketing http://honest-marketing.com It really depends on how much income you have. If there is only one income and you don't itemize, then it is better to be married. However, if you are divorced, you can claim head of household. The standard deduction is less for head of household though. However, if you itemize, it really doesn't make much of a difference. If you gave more info, you will get a better answer. The least tax is usually married, filing jointly. But, it depends on the relationship and therefore the income split. If you are divorced with children you get more because you get the EIC credit. www.shaydzofluv.com |
