Can your child support be garnished if you owe back taxes? |
my friend has already been told her bank account was closed for her. she thought her child support can be taken now. anyone know about this. OMG.... the IRS took her child support? she can prove its child support, by the direct deposit from child support dept or she can prove it with the reciepts of deposit. in any case, she should contact her states Attorney General as well as her states Regional FEDERAL Child Support Office... by FAX ONLY (phone and mail are NOT effective with these huge agencies, so FAX IT). they'll put a STOP TO THAT, especially the feds office for child support. the fax numbers are listed on their websites (the Feds Child Support Office fax is on the right hand side of the webpage) CHILD SUPPORT CALCULATOR http://www.alllaw.com/calculators/childs... This is a different kind of income, doesn't even need to be disclosed on many other financial forms. This is for the child! No, Child support is a different type of income. It is not taxable, and cannot be garnished. no While child support cannot be garnished, if any of it was deposited in the bank and the account was seized by the IRS it can be lost that way. no,they can only take it from her work pay account, but the child support is from the spouse to take care for the child's needs and they can't take that. NO! That is one of the type of incomes that the IRS won't take from you. I hope your friends works out a payment plan soon--because if she just stalls the IRS and is trying not pay anything she owns can be theirs. |
