Does child support have to be reported as an income when you file taxes? |
I'm married with two stepchildren. My wife does not work, but I do. We're filing a joint tax return. Do I have to report how much she gets in child support too? No, child support is not considered income. Source(s): www.irs.gov If its extra money coming in yes, no you do not report child support only alimony. You also cannot deduct child support paid No, child support that your wife receives is NOT reportable as income to her. It's not deductible by the person paying it either. NO...child support is usually paid by the other parent using dollars that have already been taxed, therefore, you do not have to pay taxes on the money or claim it as income on anything unless it works in your favour. No child support does not count going out or coming in. I feel it should, but its doesnt count AT ALL. |
