Should we create competition for tax dollars amongst schools to improve the education of our children? |
We could implement vouchers for people who can't afford private schools. If public schools want to have more "customers" then they would have to step up. the only problem is... there aren't private schools in the poor neighborhoods... and NEVER will be because there isn't enough profit in it... (there may be a few, but MUCH less) most private schools are in better nieghborhoods... that's why they score better on average and don't need as much per student... I'm assuming you understand the social issues that surround public schools in bad neighborhoods... it makes almost EVERY issue surrounding education more difficult... and in the end...all you would end up with is cutting funding to these schools even more to the point where there would be basically no school there... to the very people that need it a MILLION times more than those in other areas... you're basically comparing private schools in nice areas to all public schools... it's apples to oranges in almost every aspect because they don't have half the hurdles to jump over... it's like comparing the grenada invasion to Iraq and going "what's wrong with the Iraq war?" hell yea Just because the kids have two (or probably one) lazy welfare-mooching parent who never told them to pay attention in class is no reason to punish the schools that have the most of them. We already have that for those schools who do not make adequate yearly progress under the no child left behind act. Good idea !!! Competition is always the solution. Profit creates a reason and incentive to improve things. Without it, there would be no progress. Sounds good. I never thought I would come to thinking this way, but that was back when 'vouchers' were code for racial segregation. You know, back when our schools still did their job, by and large. |
