Why do I have to pay School Taxes when I have no children in the School. My School taxes are $6000 this year? |
Why do I have to pay School Taxes when I have no children in the School. My School taxes are $6000 this year? We all benefit (supposedly) from state-funded education. By raising informed, skilled, and civilized individuals, we are all protected and our society as a whole is sustained. However, on the ground this is becoming ridiculous. In my state (NJ) property taxes, most of which go to education, are the highest in the nation. While we have some excellent school districts, some are horrendous, most of them in inner-city areas. The problem is waste, fraud, and abuse by administrators and others. We spend about the highest amount per year per school child, but we still have these problems with education. I believe allocating more funds for poorer districts is needed (which we already do), but the criminal financial behavior of administrators in those districts needs to be squashed. Love Jack Why do we all pay taxes to people on welfare when we have jobs. Why do we all pay for federal roads when I'll never use most of them? Why do we all pay taxes for all the things we don't benefit from? This is an impossible question to answer. Would you rather have pay as you go for every government created piece of infrastructure. Every mile you stop to pay a toll, every breath of clean air you take you pay the EPA a nickel, that would obviously be ridiculous. We all share the burden for things that benefit society as a whole. Your welcome at anytime to bring a petition to change that. did you go to school? do you work at a company that needs educated workers? do you shop and want a clerk to help you that is literate at the grocery store, restaurant, gas station? do you live in a society where you are not the only person in it and want people to be able to read and function so that the 6000 dollars in question does not go to well fare for the uneducated? have you seen the way some of the kids write on this very site? That is why you pay school taxes, what taxes are other people paying for you? I don't drive a car, but I am willing to bet you do and I have paid taxes for those fancy smooth roads you like to drive on. Did you go to school when you were a kid? Who paid those taxes? Where do you live that you're paying $6,000/yr in school taxes alone? Are you sure it's not real estate taxes that already include school taxes? Even so, that is high. the school taxes you pay are not just for one school, they are for the entire district. This helps with up keep of the buildings, making them safe for the children, this pays for the buses and drivers and teachers..... besides no matter where you live, you will be in a school district, you will pay those taxes everywhere. We all rely on schools, hopefully the ones in your area are good ones, just pray that they are, because the better educated the next generation is, the better off we are. Because the government has to provide a free education to every child here and we all support the government with our tax dollars. I wish I could tell the state or federal government what services to spend my tax dollars on, unfortunately, I can't. You pay taxes for the greater good of the community. Good schools usually ensure higher home prices and lower crime rates. If you feel you should be allowed a discount on these taxes start attending town meetings and have your voice heard. |
