How is it not a conflict of interest for the state of OH to ban smoking but charge taxes on cigarettes? |
How can the state of OH collect taxes on tobacco products and ban the usage of same? I think that this is a problem with every government in the world. Here in Australia they have banned smoking in most areas of pubs/clubs, you can't smoke outside businesses etc because it is unhealthy etc but each time they introduce a new ban the federal government imposes a higher tax on cigarettes. Because if smoking is all that the say it is why isn't the substance made illegal. Answer: The governments won't get funds from the tobacco companies. Which I believe is to be a lot of money. you can always smoke in your own home or on your own property. Why shouldn't cigarettes be taxed? Smoke and second hand smoke creates all sorts of health issues that we ALL pay for. Those who insist upon inflicting this poison on themselves and others should help offset the outragegous expesne they create. I agree with you. Isnt that deemed taxation w/out representation, you know the same thing that started the Boston Tea Party A conflict of interest would be if Ohio encouraged smoking and taxed it, meaning they would generate more revenue. In all reality they would be taking more money out of the public funds by having the ban. And don't forget it wasn't the government that banished smoking in public, it was the voters that passed the constitutional amendment. |
