Should stealth taxes be placed on Fast food like it is on cigarettes? |
In up coming years, obesity will over come heart disease as the number 1 killer in the western world,while i understand that every cigarette has a deteramental effect on one's body can it not be argued that every fast food meal has a negative effect on the body{i of course mean hamburgers,fried chicken, pizza's not salads etc.(which can also contain fat)} Perphaps taxation would lessen peoples desire for fast food? Why is it on cigarettes but not Fast food? Because of health reasons or addictive aspects? Yeah totally agree! I know people would probably say that the country is getting a bit like big brother and the government controls everything. But what better way to discourage obesity than to tax all the crap stuff. Watch super size me, it shows how much harm all that crap can do. Who wants a nation of fat people? I think people end up going for the fast food option because it requires no effort to prepare, it's cheap and just an easy way to get food. There are some meals that are really delicious and good for you, give me a char grilled chicken fillet with salad any day of the week. If there was a tax it would go a long way to improving things. I don't think one McDonald's meal is as bad as a packet of fags though, so maybe that's why there is a difference. People have a choice about what they eat, drink or smoke and if they want to eat fast food or junk then so be it, if they want to smoke or drink then let them, they pay enough taxes as it is from their pay packets each month without adding it to foods too, what about drug users who have never done a days work in their life because of their addiction, nothing seems to be said or done about their life'style does it, we live in a free country and not a communist one, we have enough of the PC brigade telling us how to live our lifes without someone telling us we will be charged taxes on our junk food, no I don't eat it, but those who do have a mind of their own as to whether they will continue to pile the pounds on or not, its not our decision but theirs. don't worry,when every one stops smoking where do you think they will get their tax from,yes you guessed right. Indeed it would make as much sense as the high taxes on ciggies. --That Cheeky Lad Note: I do not smoke ciggies, but cigars on occasion. |
