Higher taxes for Alcohol and cigarettes? |
What would be your opinion if the government decide to put more taxes on alcohol and cigarettes, lets say increase it in a 300%. and then lower the taxes in homes? Would it be good idea? since alcohol and cigarettes are not a necessity. Why is your opinion about it? That is fine with me, I don't smoke or drink. good idea but i would do a protest since i practically live off alcohol, though the ciggy idea is good what? Sin taxes are bad..why should the few support the pork..may as well add candy, chips, fast food and sodas too..they are not necessary. They tried that sort of tax on luxury items and it was a complete failure..they lost more revenue because people stopped buying boats, planes and luxury cars. How about a tax on everything you don't "need". Swimming pools, jet-skis,houses with extra bedrooms, cars that hold more passengers than are riding. More than 1 TV per house, your Wii,dvd player. Tax all that at 300% too. Severe taxation like that only creates a black market, and ultimately decreases the revenue gained. Of course budding young Communists like the idea. I would not be in favor of this. I am never in favor of the government trying to manipulate or punish one group; assuming they are not doing something illegal. Lets take the word alcohol & cigarettes out of your question and look at this "policy". Would you be in favor of the government taxing oohhhh...computers 300% and internet access 300% since they are necessities? Maybe a tax of $1000 dollars a year if for each computer you own? Do you really want someone else making decisions for you? Do you want the government to have this kind of power? Or would you rather live your life as unencumbered as possible? I wish to live free. I say tax ALL sins Alchohol Cigs , Sex for sale. Tax the mess out of it use he proceeds to ofset the costs of medical treatment that result from these behaviors. |
