State tax on Cigarettes!? |
Do you think that the state rise the tax on cig. because of health issue, or money greed? money. politicians don't care about our health Probably a little of both, But remember this. No one has to smoke a cigarette, at least for the first time. So it could be just a way to give someone a job. Got to count all that money you know. your an oregonian too huh. for health coverage for children w/ out it. In Michigan, when it seems they want more money, the cost of cigs goes up. I think it was two years ago, may have been three, but cigarettes were taxed an extra 75 cents per pack. Makes me wonder where all this money in Michigan is, since we are even worse off financially over then! Any increase on tobacco taxes are simply a money grab. If it were a concern with health care, they would simply ban cigarette sales. This will never happen, because they would lose the huge revenue generated by tobacco sales. Any time someone raises taxes, its for the new revenue, not because of concern for the citizens. It helps fuel the economy since tobacco companies are the biggest companies and pay the most taxes, thus playing a large role in the funding of the government. By raising state taxes, it's a smart way to make more money for important things. It's a win-win situation since smoking is bad for your health, therefore a raised price would be a deterrent to smokers and be another reason as to quit, and it provides extra money for things like public education or maybe new construction work etc. It has nothing to do with greed, as the cigarette companies get enough money as it is. it is all greed, they don't give a rats @$$ about your health, in fact smokers die before most non-smokers there for they don't collect as much money from the government as the non smokers do |
