What does my credit score needs to be to get a consolidation loan? If you are willing to pay enough of an interest (risk) rate, no matter what your scores is, you should be able to find someone to do your loan. Credit score is more of a risk score. The higher the number the lower the risk. The lower the number the higher the risk. Higher number with a lower risk makes you a more favorable customer, to get your business ahead of someone else, the lender will offer you a better rate. While some lenders will refuse to lend to anyone below a certain score, there are high risk takers who will lend you the money, but you will pay for it with a higher interest rate. Different lenders have different requirements. The lower your score, the more your are going to pay in interest. Payday lenders don't care much what your score is but they charge such high interest rates, I don't know how anyone could ever get out of debt. Be careful of getting consolidation loans. Not that consolidating everything can't help but you need to look at how you got into this position in the first place. If you don't do some soul searching here and figure out how to not only get out of debt but stay out of debt, you're going to just continue digging deeper holes for yourself. One of my friends consolidated all her debt and rather than using the left over money to pay the new loan off, she ran up more debt on her credit cards, thinking she could afford the bill now that she had the extra monthly money. She wound up $70,000 in debt with no way out. Under the new bankruptcy laws, she can't even file for bankruptcy as she makes too much so now she's desperately trying to meet all the monthly payments and has zero left to pay anything else. She wound up moving back home with her parents just to save. It's a deep hole. Be careful.
