When shopping online, is a debit card equivalent to a credit card? With a credit card, if there is a problem, you can dispute the bill, and not have to pay it until the dispute is settled. With a debit card, the money is going to come out of your account immediately, and you will have to fight to get it back. Different banks will have different policies on dealing with problems on a debit card, but in general, the idea that I could dispute a problem before I had to pay for it makes buying online with a credit card more appealing to me. There's a site a yahoo finance that agrees with my opinion (use debit cards for groceries or gas, but credit card for buying things site-unseen on the internet).
