How often should I check my credit report & how many points get deducted when I check my credit? |
How often should I check my credit report & how many points get deducted when I check my credit? Its good to check frequently because your report can change anytime. Investing in credit monitoring is something I would recommend because it alerts you 24-7 if any changes occur to your report. Benefits very well to protect from identity theft and at the same time, keeps you alert. PS. your points will not be deducted for looking at your own report, only if a credit granter pulls your report. When you check your own nothing gets dinged..I personally check mine every six months..I check all my open credit accounts EVERY day though Checking your own credit does not hurt your score. Applying for credit (hard inquiries) is what affects your score. You should check all three credit reports at least once a year. You are entitled to one free copy and year from each of the three major credit reporting agencies through www.annualcreditreport.com Its a good investment to sign up for a credit monitoring service like www.freecreditreport.com or www.truecredit.com so you can have regular and unlimited access to your reports and fico score. You credit report and score are constantly changing since the credit card companies and other creditors are constantly updating account status with the credit bureaus. Enrolling in one of the programs allows you to catch any errors or suspicious activities early on allowing for damage control. http://creditwisdom.blogspot.com... http://finance-girl.blogspot.com... http://thefinancegirl.googlepages.com... http://www.prosper.com/join/thefinancegi... I suggest once per month from all three major agencies (TransUnion, Experian, Equifax). Sign up for their monitoring services. No it does not ding your credit to inquire against yourself. You can get a free credit report three times a year , no points are deducted. From http://acreditlibrary.com/freereport.htm... You can and should check your credit report and score as frequently as you like without any negative impact on your credit profile. The best way to stay on top of your credit report and score is by subscribing to a credit report monitoring service. All the major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) and trusted third party companies offer credit report monitoring which will alert you whenever any changes post to your credit report. This is very helpful in staying on top of your credit as well as watching out for potential identity theft.
