What's up with jobs wanting to check your credit? |
I've been looking for a new job lately and I've come across some seemingly run of the mill clerical work, but under the job requirements it says that I'll have to have my credit checked. What does my personal credit have to do with me working? Everything. People with good credit are more dependable. When they make commitments they follow through with them. They can see if you were ever involved with fraud. They wont have to worry about 20 collection companies calling you. Or go to the expense of seperate accounting if you get garnishments. Also people with poor credit are more likely to steal from the company. Im not saying all people with bad credit are bad people. Im just saying statistically its more expensive to hire somebody with bad credit. It doesnt mean you wont get the job, they just want to know. And they have ever right to use that in a decision to hire. Good Luck, but its pretty standard these days. But dont worry ive hired many people its just one thing in a huge list of things that are looked at. I never denied somebody getting a job based on a credit report alone. But if I have 2 equal canidates I will take the one with better credit. Source(s): Hired for fortune 500 companies Theft runs higher with persons desperate to make ends meet. (This is not to say that everyone is a criminal if they have hit a snag). Other jobs like banks have to do so by law. I work in a major bank and had to go through all the necessary background checks. You might be applying for a clerical job, but it sounds like the jobs might just put you in a position to have access to personal information on other people or to the businesses financial information. A credit check is like a reliability check. If your finances are problematic, it might mean that you are inclined to make impulsive or not well thought out decisions. It might also be a warning that you would be willing to do something illegal (fraud, etc.) to get access to money. Many employers now consider people with bad credit to be a workplace liability . People with bad credit go to the bottom of the potential hires , if they are considered at all . Also , insurance companies are checking credit reports before granting policies . > Girl they been doing that!!! They think if you don't/can't pay your bills you gone steal from them, so they better not hire you. |
