I need help with credit issues consumer credit counseling won't even help me sort through my bills? |
I am at my wits end I have tried everything I spoke to a lawyer about bankruptcy and she said i would end up having to pay everything anyway so it would be a waste of time and money to file what should i do. i would pay them but i can't afford it otherwise i would pay them Chapter 13 is where you pay all your disposable income, Chapter 7 is when your debts exceed your income to where you could never pay them off. I would look into debt settlement if I were you. There are a few companies out there that will negotiate a pay off to your creditors, one at a time for a lot less than what the creditor is asking for. Also, look into the fair debt collection practices act. You have rights. If you don't want them calling you at work, tell them so. If they continue to harass you, document it. If you get a collection letter, respond in writing and make them verify the debt. They will have to provide proof to you in writing. There are some forms on the web that you can use to generate a letter to a creditor and it will at least give you a month or so with no phone calls from that creditor. Educate yourself regarding collections. I feel better knowing my rights. Whatever you do, don't do any payday loans either. It'll make matters worse. Good luck, and hang in there. I'm a little surprised that your bankruptcy attorney advised you not to file. What sort of debts do you have? You imply you have no credit card debts....are most of your debts medical related? Need more info to give any decent advice. |
