I have leaked my credit card details on line,what step should i take to secure my account? |
bought an item online, guess i was not alertive enough to recognise that was a fake transaction.they have my details and address.what can i do In my town of Anchorage, Alaska you must notify the Bank/Loaning Institution of the card, plus you must also follow-up with a police report of fraud and or identity theft, so as any transactions that occur after the time of reporting are not back on you. You must do this quickly as the sooner the better for you! Also follow up on the report, most Police Departments now are working in some form or other with the FBI Internet Crime Prevention in catching fake sites and tracing Identity Theft Rings, so any assistance you can provide them will help to track them and possibly shut them down. Call you credit card company immediately and tell them you tried to buy something from what turned out to be a fraudulent merchant. You should not be liable for anything you did not charge. The sooner you call the better!! let your credit company, know cancel the card and ask your credit card company for further advice Call the credit card company and tell them what happened. They will close the account and reissue you a new account number. You need to do this ASAP. Call now. Then you can place a fraud alert on your name. I don't know the number offhand but I'm sure someone will respond with it. Never give your credit card number to anyone but reputable businesses, never to an individual. If they prescribe to a secure ordering system such as Verify, they'll be okay. Never put your numbers in an email. If someone get ahold of it you are screwed. |
