If you're using a current, updated browser, AND your system is clean of any spyware, there's very little chance of any danger involved in the transaction.

You'd actually be in more danger of having information stolen if you phoned or mailed your request.

You can get a free report from each of the three national credit reporting companies every 12 months. I am sure it is pretty safe.
Make sure that you use a reputable company such as Fair Isaac, the creators of the FICO score, or the major credit reporting agencies. Also, many banks and credit card companies provide reporting of this data as a service to their customers. Most importantly, as with any online transactions, make sure that you are using a secure screen. You can tell by looking at the URL; it will begin with https instead of http. Also, look at the bottom of your screen and look for the lock icon, also indicating a secure transaction. Finally, as with other transactions, log out completely and close your browser window when completed.

I've been using online services like www.myfico.com for a couple of years and feel totally secure!
