Why do some on-line order services ask for the three digit security code on the back of my credit card? Hi there, here's what gets me best answer quite often on credit cards questions: http://credit-cards.ebookorama.com... and here http://finance.ebookorama.com if it helps please remember me :-) good luck! This verifies that one actually has the card "in hand", and not using the card number from another source, illegally.. yeah what he said. someone could steal your bill from your mailbox and get all your info and buy stuff but since they don't have those 3 digits they can't This is an additional security measure integrated into credit cards to positively identify whom the card is issued to.Let me cite an example, let say someone got a hold of your credit card number only, but doesn't have the 3 digit security code, and want to order something on line. The company who processes the order will ask for this three digit code, and if it could not be produced , the order will not be processed, and you are spared this time from theft. |
