No.

They do nothing you can't do yourself for FREE.

Check out DaveRamsey.com, he's a bit "christiany" but he's one of the 'good' christians & seems a very genuine person.

Some yes, some no. What some do is have you pay them instead of the bills. They then hold ALL of your payment and stop paying your bills until they are able to negotiate a lowered payoff for one of the bills. They then pay it off, then start the proccess all over again. I am not a fan of credit, but this will ruin your credit and have a lot of creditors calling you because they are not recieving any payments at all.
Years doing mortgages to help people get out of those programs.
