I filed for bankruptcy 3 years ago, is there a way to repair my credit? Pay your bills on time. I thought that bankruptcy stays on your report for 7 years... I could be wrong though. But make sure you pay what bills you do have now on time will help. You need to start building new credit not repairing the old. The BK is over...you can not change that...or dispute it (in reality). You can beat the bureaus up with letters to see if a kink i the system will require they remove the item but this is usually a waste of time. The best thing you can do is start again...with fresh credit. I would get a secured credit card, and maybe a small car loan. Both would do wonders over a short time as long as you make your payments on time. In either case...don't get over your head or you will be in the same position without the BK as an option. There's nothing you can do about it. Start now to rebuild your credit by paying off any credit cards you may already have, and don't use them. The less available credit you have on your cards effects your credit score. Don't open any new credit accounts either.
