What is the quickest way to update and/or repair a credit report? |
What is the quickest way to update and/or repair a credit report? The quickest way is to bring all accounts current. In addition, paying down debt balances will help build your credit score. If you have existing negative items, try disputing any that may be invalid. Also, avoid opening new accounts in the short term. There are other steps you can take that may take a bit longer. I wrote an article several months back that describes some of the steps in greater detail... Source(s): http://www.stopccdebt.com/credit_repair.... pay off all your bills. It helps if you make more than the min payment each month. If you have paid your bills you can try to buy a few big ticket items on your card and pay them off in full the next month. However this only works if you have the cash in hand. There is no quick way if it is true. Immediately pay all your creditors a bit of money. Include a letter that states you intend to pay off everything you owe them and will be sending something each month. If it's just wrong information in a credit report, write down the truth and send it to the credit company reporting it. They are legally obligated to investigate. While it's under investigation, it can't be on the credit report. But keep in mind, they have so much to investigate that they may not do a true investigation and may just state again the same wrong fact. put good credit on top of bad - try something ike a secured credit card or an investment loan where the financial institution granting the loan holds the investent as collateral. If you have errors on your report, about 40% of us do, be prepared to send credit reporting agency documentation proving the error and asking ofr it to be corrected. This can be a lengthy and frustrating process. Paying of old debts can actually damage your credit score. For example if you have an old debt that you have not made a payment on in two or three years it may not be in your best interest to pay it at all. This debt is likely reporting worst status possible. Recognize that depending on where you live, negative or positive information falls off your report after a period of time - usually 5 - 7 yrs. If it has been two or three years since last payment you are two or three years closer to having it fall of report. Paying it off will not make the poor rating disappear unless you negotiate this in writing prior to paying the debt. Making a payment means you will need to restart the clock on that debt and be haunted by the poor rating for that much longer. Keep all new debts current.
