How long does it actually take for things to start falling off your credit report? |
is it true it takes like 7 years? also i know it is bad to have anything negative on your report but is it worse to have like a credit card problem or doctor bill problem? a car salesman once told me that they can over look doctor bills but not phone bills! seven years for derog credit 10 years for tax liens 10 years for bankruptcy and all accounts included - some auto banks will over look medical bills and the older the account the less banks care about it. You can go to www.annualcreditbureau.com (pull all 3) and dispute all negative information - the older accounts will fall off if they dont verify in 30 days 7 years is the usual time frame. If it's been longer than that, you can sometimes petition to have it removed. Your credit report will report any outstanding debt that has gone to collections, and any long unpaid debt will look bad. Credit card debt always appears immediately, but some non-credit based debts (like phone bills, doctor bills, etc) probably won't appear until they've been unpaid a long time and have gone to collections. If you're having problems with debt, call the American Consumer Counseling Center - unlike a lot of those "debt solution" places, this is a non-profit and won't take your money. They can give you some great counseling and advise you on the best options for your particular situation. American Consumer Counseling Center http://www.consumercredit.com/ or 1-800-769-3571 |
