What are the best steps to take to clean up my credit report? |
What are the best steps to take to clean up my credit report? Here is how you do it with out a loan, with out paying someone to do it for you and with out giving your paycheck away. First you have to get a copy of your credit report from all 3 agency's (Trans Union, Equifax and Experian), if you look around you will find that at different times of the year every state allows you to obtain 1 free credit report from each agency. You will need to go over your report and make a list of items that you don't recall having, items that are over 7 years old ( provided the collector has not contacted you to collect the debt in 7 years) and so long as it is not a court judgment, IRS or state debt you should be able to get those cleared off. You need to contact the origianl creditor first. If you have money set aside contact the ones that you know you owe and ask for a "Pay off Amount", most places will give you atleast 100 or more dollar break if you do it this way, if not call and make a payment arraigement with the company. If there are things on there that you do not remember getting file a dispute, the worse that could happen is that you did get the account, but don't remember it. I had the same issues with credit and that is how I did it. I read about cleaning your credit up, using different agency's to do it and I said to my self why would I pay someone to get me out of debt, needless to say my credit is not perfect yet, because it takes a while but it it on it's way. Hope this helps Pay your bills on time? Did you ever think of that? communicate with creditors pay all bills ahead or on time consider credit counselling stop charging stuff First, you have to pay off everything on there. Then go to your bank and ask for a loan. If they won't give you one, ask them about a different kind. I can't remember the name, but basically you put like 500 in savings and they give you a loan for 500. It means that you can't touch your 500 but you can spend theirs, then they take their payments out of what was in your savings. I know it's stupid, but it does build credit. Then start with small loans as soon as you are able. DO NOT get a credit card. those things do nothing but cause problems for people who can't afford them Awareness is key, if you don't know what is on your report you cannot keep it accuate. Check our www.annualcreditreport.com where you can get your report for free from the three major bureaus. If any items are innacurate dispute them. If they are over 7 years old dispute them. Always pay your bills on time and if you truly cannot, contact your creditors in advance to make arrangements. 1.) Pay your bills. 2.) Only keep one card. 3.) Don't use the card unless you HAVE the money. 4.) pay your card off monthly. 5.) be a mature person that knows how to handle money. too many people these days sign up for every credit card thats sent to them. big no no. I'm in the auto industry (I'm a auto wholesaler). and know many multi millionaires. Everyone of them has One card that they use. One. You will fail, and end up with bad credit and alot of debt if you use your card as a tool when you don't have money. never use the card unless you have the money already. never |
