When a debt has been deleted from credit report do I still have to pay the debt.? |
Is everyone notified of the debt deletion, such as collection agency. Or whoever has it for collection it depends how long ago your debt was charged off or deleted read this article http://www.adviceontime.com/credit%20tal... if your debt was actually yours, and you didnt pay it, you are still responsible for that debt. They will find you... they will hire a company and at anytime they will call you or even just find out your bank account number a freeze your account for up to twice what you owe on the debt... so watch out... if you owe it, pay it.... A negative item can only be reported on your credit report for 7 years from the date of the negative item. So if you had something like a "Charge-Off" that will only show up for 7 years from the date of last delinquency. If it is past 7 years it does not mean the debt has gone away, it just means that it can no longer be reported. The companies can still attempt to collect from you until you pay, but they CAN NOT put it back on your report. There is also a shorter time period called the Statute of Limitations, this is where they can no longer take any legal actions to get you to pay. For Credit Card debt this is anywhere from 2-6 years and will vary by state. If the debt is older than this they can not file a suit against you. Well they can, but you can have it dismissed because of the SOL. When someone views your credit report they only view what is currently on the report at the time the report was printed. So if something is deleted it is like it never existed and won't show up. Good practices are to pay your debts. Call the credit bureaus for that answer they will be the only ones that can tell you what they did. http://www.fdnsolutions.com |
