How can you see your free credit report without having a credit card? |
I am trying to find my credit report, but all the sites I go to, you have to use a credit card. I don't have one and don't want one. Does anyone know a site where you don't have to use a credit card? Thanks:) CREDIT REPORTS WITHOUT PAYMENT BY CREDIT CARD first it is essential to establish you reside within the UK. If you do: You will be aware that there are three agencies that have been licensed by the government to compile credit information about you under the Data Protection Act. You should request a credit report under s7 of the Data Protection Act. Look at the Information Commissioner's Office website- read the following page: http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/top... This explain the procedure for requesting credit reports. Download the leaflet PDF "Credit explained" on the page. You should then seek to obtain a 拢2 statutory credit report from each of the three agencies (it is not free any more): Equifax Plc Credit File Advice Centre PO Box 1140 Bradford BD1 5US www.equifax.co.uk Call Credit Plc Consumer Services Team PO Box 491 Leeds LS3 1WZ 0870 060 1414 www.callcredit.co.uk Experian Ltd Consumer Help Service PO Box 8000 Nottingham NG80 7WF 0870 241 6212 www.experian.co.uk You should be aware that they each compile different reports. It is not free, there is a 拢2 statutory fee they can charge because of the Government, that will entitle you to a basic report which information and codes are not really explained. Please note these companies illegitimately try to divert you to an "Online Credit Report" and there are many links that divert you to it. If you want this service, you will have to pay an exorbitant monthly fee. Otherwise, stick with the 拢2 statutory report. You do not need a credit card to pay for the statutory report. Simply download an application form from each credit agency website you want a report from, or write a letter as explained by the Information Commissioner's leaflet, and post it to them along with a CHEQUE for 拢2. Try annualcreditreport.com That is the totally free site that the govenment has. You can get a free report from all three agancies once per year. I do not know if you have to have a credit card to get into it. But I know they ask you questions about previous addresses, loans, ect to confirm you identity. You should be able to find something there, but remember, if you are able to pull up your report, you should print it. Once you close the window, you will not be able to pull it up again for a whole year. If you don't have a credit card, you probably don't have any credit history and therefore have no credit report. However, if you bank at one of the larger banks (Chase, Fifth Third, WaMu), they can run your information through Qualifile and pull up your score and see if there's any history. They might only do it for you if you open a new checking account though. The best way nowadays to start a credit history is to apply for department store credit cards or gas station credit cards since these cards have less stricter lending requirements but higher interest rates. bank employee If your in the U.K you can send a cheque or postal order to Experian, however I've just noticed they advertise on the web site a free credit report, maybe check this out? I've only ever done it buy cheque :-) This is a very simple. If you don't have a credit card and want to see how your credit is, write each credit ber. and request a copy of your credit report. You get one free each year for all three. And if you have gotten your free one, you just write a check or send in a money order.
