How do I get a valid 30-day late removed from my credit report.? |
My FICO scores for 3 bureaus run from 740-755, which is not bad. However, I have a 30-day late from a department store credit card from about a year and a half ago that I'd like removed. I know how to go to credit bureaus to ask them to remove this if it is a mistake by the credit provider, but it's not. It's a valid entry - I just forgot to pay this one bill on time for one month when I had a lot of personal emergencies going on. I have kept this account open and paid on time since this one mistake. If I go back to the credit card provider and explain that I have learned my lesson and have been a good customer since then, is it possible that they will remove this black mark from my account so that I can have the credit bureaus remove it? TIA. First off, the guys who say that this can't be removed are incorrect. Most credit providers will remove a 30 day late if you have been a good customer. It might help to explain the "personal emergencies" you had, and you might play the fact that you're a loyal customer of this department store as a bargaining chip. I wonder if this is even worth worrying about. Your credit score in the mid 700s puts you in probably the top 20-25%. A single 30 day late will probably fall off your bureau reports altogether after 2 years, and you say it has already been a year and a half since this happened. If this was a pattern of 30 day lates you'd be in much worse of a situation, and a 90 day late would really sock you. The point of marking you late is so that people will know in the future that you were late. Call the creditor and ask them to do it. They may or may not. Good hell your scores are great, I cant even imagine why you care. But if you want that off I would go back to the credit card company or whatever it was and say I just forgot to pay it. Look at my record, Ive always been perfect with you. They will say no because you are talking to somebody most likely from another company. Just keep asking for supervisors and the credit agents at that company. They can write you a letter saying they are removing it, if they dont you can use that letter and get it removed yourself. You might have to make alot of phone calls. When I do an FHA loan that I think is difficult, I will send it to 10 different FHA underwriters. 9 might say no, but I only need 1 to say yes. 15 years mortgage exp Sometimes the Creditor may be willing to forgive if you outright ask for deletion of the thirty day late if you state that you have an excellent payment record with them. Be careful, you don't want to dispute with the Credit Bureaus because they may delete your tradeline if the Creditor does not respond in time regarding a dispute. Try a credit report for free. You would be suprised how often that works...especially if your payment history has been perfect. Many times they will do this as a one-time courtesy. The creditor has to be the one to request it be removed. |
