I have 2 credit cards that i paid off in 2000 and 2001 how long do they stay on my credit report?

is these items hurting or helping my credit being on there

Challenge the credit reports about the cards. There is a loophole that you can pass freely through, if you challenge the debt as not yours even though you've paid them off. The credit card company has 30 days to respond to all 3 of the credit reporting agencies. If credit company doesn't respond in 30, they are removed from your credit file and your score rises. Forget the 3 to 7 years crap. That's only if they go unchallenged.
Most credit card companies close inactive accounts after three years or sooner. I have rarely seen closed accounts appear on credit reports after seven years. Your credit score, would have been higher, if you had used them every few months and paid off the balance.
If the accounts are still open, they will stay indefinitely. If they are closed, they will be on your report for 7 years from the date of last activity.

Whether it helps your credit or not may depend on many factors. If they were good, paid on time, accounts, they may help you because the 0 balances will help your debt ratio. If there were late payments on these cards, that usually never looks good to potential creditors.
I think seven years from the date you paid
