Credit report questions?

I thought that items could only stay on your credit report for 7 years if they were closed or collection accounts. Most of what I had on there is off, but three companies keep selling the account and now for two credit cards I have 8 entries on my credit report for the same account just different collection agencies. Can they do that? Also, why would a law firm that was told (by a judge) that they waited too long and were fined themselves for their tactics still request my credit report on a monthly basis? Isn't that harassment?

And don't tell me to pay my bills, I do. This is from 8 years ago and was not my fault.

Negative items can only be reported for 7 years from the date of the negative item. So for things like Charge-Off's that would be 7 years from the date of last delinquency. Also, creditors are not allowed to have more than 1 collection account per original account at any one time.

Now, unless the judge created an order that they are not allowed to pull your credit report I am not sure if there is anything that would be considered harrasement. He may have been talking about the Legal Statute of Limitations, which is the amount of time they have to file a suit against you. This is different than the reporting time for credit reports. Until a debt is paid creditors can take reasonable means to attempt to collect the debt. So it would just be up to a judge if pulling your credit report every month would be considered unreasonable under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act(FDCPA)

You don't say if the original debt is off your report yet, however it seems that they might be as you are just talking about collection accounts. So, you first need to send a dispute to the Credit Reporting Agencies to have them validate each of the collection accounts. In your dispute you need to state that they are older than 7 years and need to be removed. Send this by certified mail with a return receipt. If the CA's do not validate the debt in 30 days they will be removed.

If any of the agencies validate the debt, you will then have to dispute them directly with the CA's. Here they need to send you proof of the debt including the dates. If they do not give this information to you in 30 days, you then can send another letter to the Credit Reporting Agencies and have them remove the listing because they did not validate.

It will take a lot of paperwork and letters, but eventually you should be able to get it straighted out. Source(s): http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/...
contact the credit bureau and explain the situation, it might take a few tries, but eventually youll find someone who cares enough to investigate the matter & theyll get it cleared up
good luck :o)

Whose fault do you think it was? Of course it was your fault. You are responsible for your debts -- I would have thought by now, 8 years later, you would have learned this.

With regards to your actual questions, items stay on your credit report for 7 years from the date they were actually discharged or late. So if different credit agencies are still trying to collect on your debt, it's going to continue to show. PAY YOUR BILLS!

As for the law firm requesting a credit report on you monthly, do you have the judge's written ruling stating that they can no longer do this? If so, submit a copy to each credit bureau (there are 3 major ones) and include your own written letter advising them to immediately stop providing any credit information to this firm.

ADDITION: Nice of you to ADD details after the fact that change your entire story. If you don't like someone's answer, don't make up new stuff to change your story to a different one. If you were the victim of theft and credit card fraud, say so! And report it. This way the fraud will be removed from your credit report and you will not be liable. If YOU decided to GIVE UP, then YOU are responsible for this mess. Life's most important lessons are those that are always the most difficult to learn.
Most inportant is yes that is harrasment, and yes MOST items will stay on your report for 7 years but thier are a few that will stay for 10. im not sure what items are on yours. Your prob gonna have to do some leg work calling the diff companys and find out why thay are still reporting the bills. then i would go to freeanualcreditreport.com and go to the 'file despute' section. It will list all of the items on your report but you will be able to click and select them indevidualy. just click on the item that is older than 7 years and when the screan changes explain that the bill is old. thay should investigate it within 30 days but here is the beutifull part. if thay dont investigate it within the 30 days thay have to remove it reguardless so make sure to dispute them all at once. good luck.
