I am sending a payment for a bill sent to collections. How do I make sure it's off my credit report? |
I want to make certain these bills, once paid in full, do not remain upaid on my credit report. How do I insure this will not happen? The collection agency is required by law to report the correct balance. So there is nothing extra you need to do if you just want it to show as paid. However, you do not want to just have it marked as paid, you want it removed. To do this the previous answer was correct. You must do this BEFORE you send them any money. Make sure you have an agreement from them in writting that states they will remove the collection account once the amout is paid. Now, once it is paid it will take about 30 days for the reports to get updated. After that time you do need to verify that it was updated by pulling a copy of your credit reports. You can do this by going to http://www.annualcreditreport.com... Some bills will remain on your credit report regardless... It depends on what type they are. Write a letter to the company including proof that the bill was paid. If you are not sure, call the collection agency for information. It is better to show that it was paid in full on your credit and have it disappear within a few years than to leave it unpaid and have it stay for up to 7. good luck! This is something you must negotiate for before you make the payment. If the company has already agreed to this just make them send you something in writing to that effect. If you have not negotiated this prior to the payment it will not happen, so call the company before you make the payment and arrange for this. See this website for helpful hints on how to negotiate with collection agencies: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/... |
