Can a debt be reported twice to the credit bureau?

Once by the original creditor and then by the collection company? If not, then how should someone takes care of it. Any online resources available?

Yes. This has happened to me. I am having a problem right now trying to get some stuff removed from my credit report. The problem is that there are 3 credit bureaus and they do not share information so you have to contact all three - Experian, Equifax, TransUnion. Use these sites to get free copies of your reports.

It happens a lot. You will have to contact the creditor the debt originally belonged to for them to correct it. Request that they write each reporting agency and inform them that they no longer own any debt with you.
