Getting a credit card with a fraud alert on report? |
I have good credit and want to get a new credit card and transfer my old balance to the new one with 0% apr for a year. the question is will I be approved with a fraud alert on my credit report? I know that it prevents too many accounts from being opened. the fraud alert was placed by me due to my information being stolen over a year ago. so far there have been no attempts to open accounts in my name. thanks. If you are the one who reported the fraud alert, then that should be indicated on your credit report, and if you are in good standing on all of your accounts, you should be approved. The biggest obstacle I can see standing in your way is having too numerous accounts. That's a big deal they look at, if you have too many that are near their credit limit. Could be possible, but the credit card company may ask you for proves about you efforts made after the stolen you've suffered. Start with Washington Mutual Mastercard, build credit and after a year of responsible credibility, apply for a starter- American Express. AMEXs are very very hard to get- high requirements but show stature. You will probably still be able to get the card but you just might have to provide extra proof that you are who you say you are. I D theft sucks I know I've been there. you may want to just call the customer service number for the card you want to apply for. then they know in advance, and can tell you how to apply. usually what a fraud alert means is that they have to contact you directly before they can issue you credit, and you have to provide ID, so on-line applications and mailing them in is out. |
