Can a negative mark from a credit agency be removed from my report if i paid it already?

I stupidly paid off a request from a collection agency for a fee i owed verizon wireless for early termination..... i didnt realize at the time that it was on my report so i paid it, now i dont know if i have a bargaining chip since they have my money. Any ideas to get it off my report? Thanks!

I had the same exact situation with Verizon.

Usually once you've paid something, you've lost your negotiating tool (Money). Unfortunately, this account will not be removed from your credit report. Sending a copy of a letter verifying this account has been paid will help to update this account as paid, but the reporting agencies will not remove this account.

You can try disputing this account. Try disputing this account every 30 days with each agency. Each time, give a different reason. You can say this is not your account, or the dates or wrong. Whatever. If the collection agency does not respond, then the account will be removed.

Or you can do what I did. I became a monkey on Verizon's back. Stating that I was not properly notified about my early temination fee's and was not given enough time to pay. Or you can file a complaint with the FCC

You won't get if OFF your credit report. You have the right to see it as marked paid, but it will remain there for its due course of seven years before it dies of old age.
You need a letter from the collection agency saying your account is paid in full. Then you need to contact the credit reporting agency & fax or mail them the letter. The credit agency most likely will remove it, and let you know when it'll be clear (usually 90 days).

You can ask
Ya well, dont pay out any money unless you get in writing that they will take it off your credit report.

If the bill collector is a nice guy you can call and ask him to and maybe he will hook you up. Otherwise...your out of luck.

Depending on what state you are in...they can keep it on your credit report for a few years. But they do have to update it to a "paid account". It will show up as a collection account though.

Ya and about the disputing it...ok no. Dont even bother cause the guy can just put his file next to him and respond each month. No big deal is a couple of boxs to check and a sentance to write. What are you going to do when he responds??? Its going to get really old.

Besides that...most agencies...like the one Im at...update credit reporting every 6 months. Even if you got it dropped of it would show up again later.

Dont waste your time on it...its not as bad as you think. Just concentrate on building your credit and making everything else look good.

What can I say? $hit happens.

Good Luck.
