How long does an inquiry stay on your credit report? How do you get it off? |
Auto rental led to inquiry on credit report without my knowledge. Unless you did not have a credit card for the deposit I would find it strange that an Auto Rental put an inquiry on your report. However, there are 2 types of inquiries. A Soft Inquiry is used mainly for pre-approved applications, but could be used in other cases also. These are only seen by you and have NO effect on your score or report. The other is a Hard Inquiry, these are where you are requesting credit. If you only have one or two every few months the effect is minimal. A Hard inquiry will only be used in credit scoring for 1 year from the date of inquiry. However, it will remain on your report for a total of 2 years. If you did in fact try to rent a car from this company you should review your contracts and see if any of the documents you signed gives them authorization to run a credit report. If there was in fact no authorization or never used the company then you need to dispute it with the credit reporting companies. They will then verify it with the company and remove it if needed. The inquiry won't hurt you. That's what credit reports are for. Now if you owed the company money and didn't pay on time or didn't pay at all, you'll have to live with that for a while...they won't take it off unless its untrue and even then...its not easy to do. This site helped me repair my credit myself. creditboards.com Requests for your credit history remain on the credit report for up to two years. There is no way to get it off, you just have to wait. http://www.consumerbadcreditguide.com/cr... |
