I need to have a paid debt removed from my credit report.? |
I have a letter showing i paid the debt but cannot find who or where to send it to get it off my credit report.I live in Alabama and cannot locate a credit that can help.Hope you all can help me.Thanks! It depends what the situation is here. If the debt you are referring to was reported as a collections account or in that sort of bad light, then just because you have paid it will not remove it from the credit report. It will stay on there for seven years, but it will show that you did pay the debt. To get the letter showing you paid it to the reporting agency, take the company name as it appears on the credit report and google them to find a phone, fax, or address. If, by some chance, it was a mistake in payment dates or you really didn't have an account go into bad standing, you can always file a dispute with each credit reporting agency. Those being transunion, equifax, and experian. go to www.aunnualcreditreport.com to get all 3 reports. then dispute it you can get a delete letter from your creditor to remove it. also some creditors will just not respond to a dispute if it has a paid balance - the bureau would delete it after no response in 30 days. The truth is, you can't. Paying off a debt does not remove an account from your credit report. It will generally stay on your credit report 7 years from the date of last activity, which would be the date that you paid it off in full. Is this a collection? If it is, it will be reported as a "paid collection" and this does not hurt your score like a "open collection". The same rule applies for charge-offs. Please don't believe anyone that tells you that disputing it will take it off your credit report...it doesn't. The account still appears as "in dispute" and it just isn't calculated into the score. The creditor has up to 90 days to respond to the dispute, and if the information is being reported correctly, it stays. If a collection or charge-off appears on a credit report "in dispute", underwriters will STILL require a borrower to either pay it or get it removed from the credit report...which if it's a valid debt, is not possible. 11 years experience as a mortgage underwriter/Direct Endorsement/Subprime/A-paper/R... Well the phone numbers for the three credit bureaus are as follows; 1. Equifax 1-800-685-1111 2. Transunion 1-888-397-3742 3. Experian 1-800-916-8800 But, this will not remove the item from your credit report, it will still show but will show as paid for 7-years from the date you paid the debt.
