What's up with credit scores determining employment? |
What are employers thinking with that? I have a decent credit score, not fantastic or anything- but I have outstanding work references. If they are looking for a "responsibility factor" why not just check references? Is a full background check, credit score and drug test really necessary for a Graphic Designer position? I could see some logic in it if I was trying to get in with the FBI or something.. but this is just a design and layout job- anybody got any pertinent advice? Seems like an invasion of privacy to me. The credit check seems like overkill for that type of a position but the logic behind it seems to be that if you have a low(er) credit score, you could have alot of debt and would be more inclined to embezzle from the company if the opportunity would arise. Its all about Big Brother they want to make sure your "responsible" if you have a large debt and you dont pay your bills I guess they feel your a risk to the company With a bad credit rating they think you may be more apt to steal from the company. Also they consider it a responsibility risk... if you work in banking or finance, you can get fired for defaulting on your own personal accounts. Its all about responsibility and risk. I think your position doesnt warant it, but many others, like mine over the last 5 years, do. |
