After an interview, when does a prospective employer do a credit check? Will this check lower my credit score? |
I am also in the process of buying a house and the bank has to run the numbers again before settlement. If I go for a job interview, will the employer do a credit check without my knowledge? When will they do the check? Will this credit check and who did the check show up when the bank does their final credit check? If the employer checks my credit, will that lower my credit score? Thank you! Most every employer today will run a credit check, this allows the to see how well you manage your own finances before giving you the chance to deal with theirs. Poor credit will not always disqualify you for a job but be forthright if they mention they are running a credit check if your credit is poor or marginal. Also since it's not a request regarding a new line of credit it wont count towards your credit score at all. Most checks are done along with your back ground check and many major companies outsource this function to a company specializing in specifically working with employment issues. I've never seen on my report a reference to employers checking my score. Source(s): Personal Experience as a personnel manager. Yes they will probably run a check. I read somewhere that it does not count against your score because it is not really attempting to gain credit it is only looking. I've never heard of an employer doing credit checks on a potential employee. That might not even be legal. I don't think anyone can check your credit without your permission. Call your local library to find out more about employment laws in your state. It is pretty standard to check the credit rating. It doesn't even show up as a check though, it will not effect your score. You have to signa release for the check to be done, they can't run it w/o you knowing about it. why would employer do a credit check? Is he going to hire you based on how much you made before? How does your ability to pay credit effect your future job? |
