Credit Question settling a bill what will it do to my credit score? It will show as "Settled for less than full amount". It will increase your score but not by much. Before you pay them anything call and demand that they remove the collection from your credit bureau as a condition of your payment. They may agree and they may not. If they do, get it in writing before you send them any money and pay by cashiers check or money order. Then check your credit and make sure that they actually removed it. Source(s): Finance Manager for over 7-years. it will make it better DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY. first, get them to send you a letter saying they will delete the item from your credit report within 30 days if you pay it as agreed or in full (whatever you can get them to agree to). if you pay them, they have no reason to delete it from your credit report, so make them put it in writing that they will delete it completely before paying. www.creditboards.com Well, settling a bill for less than what the debt actually is, is a negative srike and and positive fore. Negative is that you owed a debt and didnt make good on your promise to pay it back. Positive in the respect that the account is now paid off ,out of collection and no longer on your concious. Your credit scor will increase, but not as igh as it would if you paid it in full... |
