Does dental insurance usually cover part of the cost of a mouth guard you get at a dentist or periodontist? |
I am going to be getting a mouth guard and need to know if dental insurance will cover it. It is for receding gums due to clenching. You have to check your policy because every company and policy is different. If you don't know, your dentist should get preapproval and should be able to tell you what you'll be responsible for. Mine didn't. And at the time, I had excellent insurance. Usually not, but your dentist should let you make installment payments No, I have excellent insurance as well, and mine did not cover a mouth guard for TMJ. Sorry. Contact your insurance provider. They should cover it. It is them you should be asking though. I had the mouth guard for TMJ. Clenching while sleeping. I found it very uncomfortable and eventually quit using it. Getting a good cleaning now and then will help get the same results. I felt that this guard was just a temporary solution. What you need to do is find out what causes you to clench (stress in my case) and solve that problem. A guard will not stop you from clenching and having a sore jaw. Usually dental insurance won't cover the big stuff unless you have satisfied the deductible and a substantial waiting period. Personally, I cancelled my dental insurance and bought a dental discount plan. The best one I found was called Ameriplan. The discount plan will give you discounts on ANY dental issues you may have.
