Are there any legitimate dental insurance plans for self employed people?

Are there any legitimate dental insurance plans for self employed people? Not "discount programs", but true blue, real dental insurance programs for people whom are self employed? I have combed the internet and cannot find any except the "bogus" discount programs. Surely it exists.

At least you have the discountplans figured out. Good for you.

Delta is selling individual plans in SOME states, so see if they have one for you. You will not generally find good dental insurance for individuals. The thing is, insurance companies are in BUSINESS and they want to make a PROFIT. They know exactly how much any given group is going to spend for their dental needs, so they construct a fee schedule for that group and decide how much premium that they will need to charge to pay out those fees for that group and still make money. Dental insurance can be a big loser for the insurance companies, because EVERYONE has dental problems. Not everyone has a heart attack.
Try the Delta dental insurance. Peace!

You are wise to avoid internet "dental discount plans" as they are a scam.

Delta Dental is a huge group and generally good insurance, but I don't know if they offer individual plans - my guess is "not."

In Washington State, there is an organization for self-employed people. They have managed to get medical and dental insurance as a group. Check to see if you can join any such group in your area. This would give you more clout than trying to buy as an individual.

Talk to other people who do what you do - trade fairs, etc. They will probably know if something like this is available. If not, you could try to organize it yourself!
I have a discount plan. If were a scam, then why would they have over 100k providers and be registered with the Better Business Bureau?? Being self employed, would you want to have anything to do with a fraudulent company to increase your business?? My guess is no.

Providers only end up getting 40% of the claim they file to insurance companies, so even though you are paying them a small fraction too, there are no claims forms or anything like that as well as they get paid right away. This has a huge appeal to them being that they get their money right away. I actually have researched this.

I don't know about these other discount companies, but I can speak for Ameriplan. They are wonderful and have saved people a lot of money. Maybe it's not what you're looking for, but don't be calling something a scam you know absolutely nothing about.
