What is the difference between dental insurance and a discount plan?

and what are the pros and cons of each??can yu save money?

Because they cost the consumer less than dental insurance, discount plans are adding more members to it's plans every year. Discount plans are popular with Dentists who use them. Over 30,000 Dentists in the US have joined the Ameriplan庐 network.

Why would over 30,000 Dentists provide a discount to Ameriplan庐 dental patients?
1) More patient referrals, means less advertising.
2) They are paid at the time of service by the discount plan member.
3) They do not have to submit claim forms and wait up to 120 days to be paid for their dental services.

With Ameriplan庐 the savings can be up to 80%. Dental fees vary per region. Source(s): http://www.123dentalplan.com

dental plan is way to go if you need a lot of work done, discount plan is way to go for minor things
Discount plan is a network of dentists who agree to do specific procedures for contracted (lower) prices. For example, they might offer cleaning and exam for $75, which is a little cheaper than what other dentists may charge.

Insurance reimburses you for part of the actual cost of what you have done.

Insurance is more expensive.
Discount programs are perceived as often featuring lower quality or less established practices who are in need of patients and will accept the discount arrangements as a way to get bodies in the office. Certainly better than nothing, but you can only use those dentists.
Pretty much what it indicates.
One is actual insurance and the other is only a discount program.
Most dental insurances have what I call a "grade up" system.
You usually have minimal coverage the first year which will only do things like cleaning and xrays, second year often times allows for the cleaning, exray, caps and fillings and the third year you have full benefits. . .cleaning,xrays,fillings,caps,... work etc.
Dental discount programs are programs that dentist participate in by agreeing to accept discounted fees though 1) discounts are minimal 2)most dentists don't participate in these programs because they lose too much money.(Always check with your discount program to see if you have any local dentist participating).
nothing. they are both worthless. dentists who sign up for these things have to cut corners to make any money. just pay cash and start flossing.
