What's the difference between a dental discount plan and dental insurance? A dental discount plan is a pre-determided amount that the dentist has to charge for each procedure, say like, $50.00 for a cleaning of your teeth. They have a contract with the discount plan, and cannot go above what is stated in the plan for certain things. Dental insurance is just that, insurance that must cover, to a certain extent, any work that you have done. Usually, dental insurance is the better option, because they do not limit what you can have done or how much the dentist can charge. You also get better coverage with the dental insurance. With dental insurance, you usually get cleanings and x-rays for free, fillings and root canals for 80%, and crowns and veneers for 50% coverage. Plus, you can see the dentist you want, not who they tell you whom you must see. Something like $5,000.00 for total dental work;if you have a bridge fix and the amount is the same amount as above;you probably pay nothing; and still have $2,000.00 on the rest of dental work.
