Anyone know of a good private dental insurance company?

I'm looking for a dental insurance company that is not connected to one's employee benefits...dental work is so costly!! :-p

Let me tell you a few thoughts on this.

First, call the dentists in your area and see WHAT THEY TAKE because you could pay for something no one takes. Know what I mean?

Also, read the plan carefully. Sometimes they offer coverage similar to the price you pay for it. What I mean is, if you add up your monthly payments for the insurance, and then subtract the deductable, etc etc etc, it may not be worth signing on for a year.

Lastly, if you can find a dental college in your area, or outside your area, you can often find very cheap rates and long lines. Something to consider depending on what you want done. I had a root canal done at one and the student was so nervous that I was upset, he was very, very careful and kind. I had a tooth pulled at the local overpriced dentist with a degree and he was a jerk who yelled at me and treated me rudely. Source(s): Lots of dental exp
Sadly there is not as good dental insurance. AETNA is about as goo as it gets.
Basically, you are trying to get free money - something for nothing. Sorry, but it just doesn't exist.

An employer can buy dental insurance for a group, because the insurance company knows not everyone in the group will need much, or some won't go at all. That way, they get paid more in premiums than they have to pay out.

An individual will certainly use the policy (that's why they bought it), so in order to make a profit, the company must charge MORE in premiums than they pay out per year. Makes no sense.

The best thing you can do is put money aside in a savings account for dental work, or find a job that offers dental benefits. An individual dental plan that's worth what it costs doesn't exist because there is no profit in it.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a "good private dental insurance company"!

That's the reason more and more people these days travel overseas for their dental work. Places like Mexico, India, Thailand and Singapore offer cheaper alternatives. And even after your travel expenses have been taken into account, you end up saving 60-80%.

The only problem is the quality of dental offices there. So if you make sure that they are JCI/JCAHO/ISO accredited then your problem is solved. This basically means that the hospitals/dental offices meet US standards and the service provided is world-class.

One such medical tourism facilitator that works with only the highest quality hospitals overseas is Healthbase at http://www.healthbase.com. You can research about the various dental procedures, communicate with the dentists overseas, plan and book your travel all at their website. And if you are in need, you can even apply for a dental loan through their website.
