Is there anything a family doctor can do for tmj? My dental insurance does not cover any treatment.? Talk to your family doctor and see if you can get a referral to an oral surgeon. I had TMJ surgery twice in 2004 and although an oral surgeon did the surgery, my dental had nothing to do with it..it was covered 100% by my medical insurance. My dentist said that there are like mouth pieces that you can wear at night that help with it...I'm not exactly sure how it works but it might work, and your dr. might be able to get you some information on it and help you find ways to get the insurance to cover it...i hope this helps :) No, your family doctor will not be able to treat temporal mandibular joint syndrome (TMJ). You need to see a dentist and he will determine the course of action you need. Some times just having your bite adjusted can take care of the problem. You may need a mouth guard that can be worn while you are sleeping or it is an extreme case, you may need surgery. |
