I was looking into dental discount plans, has anyone used these? They are not insurance but discount plans.? |
I have dental insurance but not one that covers the cost of braces. If anyone has any information for me I would greatly appreciate it. Shall we wait for Rachell Burke to show up and give her free ad again? For the most part, dentists who are successful don't need to discount their rates. Any dentist worth his or her salt can charge a reasonable fee without offering discounts to people on these plans. The so-called discount plans make big money for those selling them, but offer extremely limited choices to those who purchase them. If people put their money in a medical savings account, they'd be far better off, PLUS they would have a choice of dentists. If a dentist is willing to substantially discount their work, ask yourself this question: "What part of the service should they NOT do? Anesthetic? Should they use non-sterilized instruments? Maybe get somebody off the streetcorner to assist?" The prices dentists charge usually represent what it costs to deliver the service. If they could do the same thing for 25% off, they would do it for everybody. They'd be the most popular dentist in town. Unfortunately, providers willing to get into these plans are often desperate for patients. Buyers beware. Yes I use a discount dental plan and it's great! Save anywhere from 50% to 80% on most services and even 25% when you have to go to a specialist. The average savings for braces is 50% which is a great savings! Recently I went to dentist and had x-rays, teeth cleaning and some polishing, my total bill came out to $197 but I only paid $59, so I save $138 bucks on that one visit! The plan is only $11.95 a month for an individual or $19.95 a month for household. You also get 3 additional benefits free with the plan vision, RX, & chiropractic! Get more information at: http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/pjackson..... Let me know if you can't locate the website or have some questions! The potential problem with any discount plan is you don't have the latitude to pick whomever you choose to take care of you. You may or may not like the providers listed. You would be better off saving your money, asking for referrals, and paying the going rate for ortho with the doctor of your CHOICE. I'm a DDS. Dr. Tom is 100% correct. Watch out about buying a "discount plan" as most who are participating are "there for a reason..." 30 years as a dentist Ask your dentist if he will honor those. He may steer you to a more effecient insurance. |
