Denied disability insurance?

My father has COPD and hasn't been able to work for about 4 years he was turned down for dis.insur, because he didn't pay in enough something???
I don't under this, is he entitled? He's 61

My Mom was declared disabled by her doctors. It took her two years to start getting disability insurance. She had to get a lawyer to help her with the paperwork (legality) and her doctors had to send in test results and all. Just don't give up! Good Luck!
Disability insurance is based on several factors. 1 your father cannot have more than $2,000.00 in assets. 2. Your father will have to prove that he is disabled, medical charts etc. He will need to verify that he has had 0 work in the last four years and if he is married his wifes income will also come into play. Don't give up
Just don't give up. Hire a lawyer and hang in there.
He can be turned down, but keep on trying. Contest every time and keep on fighting. Eventually he will probably get thru to them. This happens a lot, Good luck!!
Get a lawyer and go after them for State and federal disability Find a lawyer that will do it for a % of the retro pay (the retro is what is owed to him from the time he was first denied) also get an attorney that specializes in disability claims.. Good luck
Most of these answers don't make sense so far. Your assets and spouse income are irrelevant when it comes to disability insurance. Long term (LTD) and short term disability (STD) are an insurance that allows you to pay a premium in return if you become disabled they will pay you a % of your pay - often 60% or 66% to a max. STD kicks in after about 5 days of sickness and normally runs about 6 months. LTD would kick in after that and normally pays until social security retirement age. Each STD and LTD plans have different qualification standards. It is possible he does not qualify for some reason. For example it is not uncommon to see a LTD plan that requires you to qualify for social security disability before it will pay and if you do qualify it would only pay the maximum on your plan after it offset what SS paid for.

I guess what I am saying is that it does not look like you have enough information. You need to get a copy of the policy and a copy of the denial letter to help you determine exactly what is going on. We can not answer your question thoroughly with the information you have provided.

Furthermore if you were referring to him being denied for SS disability benefits, I know nothing about this and my answer would not apply.
There is really not enough information here to answer your question, but if you are talking about Social Security disability benefits, you do have to have worke in a job that paid into the system in order to be qualified to draw benefits. You must be either currently insured by working enough quarters to be covered. If they told you he was not covered because he had not paid into the system, there is not much you can do. SS benefits have nothing to do with how much money you have or what your spouse makes. Medicaid does however.
